Beavers

Beavers are the youngest section in the Scouting family.  Girls and boys can join from age 6, moving on to the Cubs section between 8 and 8 1/2 years old.

Our activities include lots of running around playing active games, outdoor fun such as scavenger hunts, trail following and pond dipping, arts and craft activities and visits into the community such as the local sheltered housing, the fire station, local churches etc.  We also take part in Scouting events with other Beavers from across the Country, as well as a Beaver sleepover once a year.

Like all other sections, badges are awarded to show everyone what we have learned, taught others and discovered.

Our Beaver section is very popular with between 15 and 24 members and we meet once a week at the Scout Hut in Spring Road between 5.30 and 6.30 on a Wednesday night.

Joining Us

You do not need to wear a uniform when you first come and meet us. We like to give you a few weeks to see what Beavers is about and what fun you can have.

After you have been to Beavers for a few weeks, you will be invited to make a special promise.

The core promise is –

"I promise to do my best, to be kind and helpful and to love God."

Of course being a multi-faith organisation, we have a alternative promise for anyone with other faiths or no faith.

If you would like to join us – please visit the Contact Us page.

Beaver Meetings

When you join Beavers, you will be put in a Lodge. Each lodge will have around 6 other Beavers.

At the beginning and end of the meetings, we stand smartly in our lodges so that the leaders can talk and pass on information.  We also sing our Beaver song!

There is a program in place for each term which the Leaders will share with Parents either at the start of the term or on a weekly basis.

Parent helpers are always welcome and we have a parent rota which we ask parents to put their names on to help out once a term if possible.
